Established in 1992 with the start of the privatization program in Egypt. It is one of the state-owned holdings, specialized since its startup in the contracting sector, to which were added lately the real estate companies, part of the tourism holding .
The Holding is to divest its whole portfolio of 18 companies in the real estate sector to strategic investors or on the stock exchange, whereas the 3 real estate companies attract a large number of investors, due to their prime land assets.
In February 2008, the Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmed Nazif, issued a decree to merge the Holding Company for Trade with its claims and obligations into the Holding Company for Building and Construction and transfer its construction affiliates to the Holding Co. for Building & Construction while shifting the trade companies to other holdings.
